Me-time, when was the last time you had one?

I am about to have my me-time (read : have the whole appartement for myself) for the whole weekend! Woo hoo!! I am overly excited about it.

I am a big fan of me-time thingy. I think everyone has to take a me-time, REGULARLY. Not necessarily to figure out what they want in life, or who do they want to be or where they want to go, but simply just to take a deep breath and enjoy what they have achieved so far, like a total day off from whatever roles they have to put on in their daily life.

I know few people that feel guilty whenever they take (or even wanting) a me-time, especially those who already have family. I think taking a me-time is not a selfish thing to do (conditions apply). Your children won't mind if you go off on your own for a quick while, you know, just to reboot, refocus, and recharge yourself. Afterward you will be a better you to them and to whoever around you. As long you go back from your me-time before the kids go back to school the next day, not after they finish college, you are taking me-time here, not avoiding child custody.

I got so many reactions when I say the word : Me-time. Most of them are positive, but there are also some unique thoughts about it. Like this one friend I have who always get irreasonably worry whenever she has to be apart with her partner, like spending a night in different bedroom can kill them, the idea of me-time is completely absurd for her.

I also got some cynical reactions laced with deep-seated jealousy from my friends who are a mum to babies and tiny terrorists toddlers. They told me that their me-time is when they are able to have a bath or take a dump alone with the door close. Come on, don’t tell me those are « the » me-time for mums. Why is it the basic maintenance of yourself become such a special me-time when you are a mum? Its not like you are away for the whole month at a yoga retreat in an exotic and secluded place or something. Is motherhood that bad hectic?
*to mothers who read this, please feel free to throw the following comment at me: "you see it yourself once you have a kid of your own.". I deserve it.

Sparked with jealousy, they asked me why in the world would I need a me-time, isn’t all my time is me-time already? Ummm.. Perhaps the stress from worrying about speech impediment makes them forget that I have a family to raise too, and also this little gig called full-time job I have on the side, plus the numerous commitments I made out of boredom that I am still taking responsibilty of, like this blog here, and here.

Me-time, my time!
Taking a me-time is not about neglecting your responsibilities and ditching your duties, its mostly about spending; spending enough patience to listen to what your heart desires; spending enough curiosity and excitement to explore what your brain has as ideas unless it gives you the idea to watch the Conjuring 1 & 2 in marathon, you don't want to spend the night alone on your me-time session after watching the Conjurings, trust me; spending enough money to pamper yourself, buying yourself things you don't really need but purchasing it makes you feel better; spending enough energy to listen to what your body wants; and mostly; spending enough time for yourself, with yourself.

Here have a look at this very informative and fun to read infographic about me-time.

Bottom line is me-time is basically doing constructive activities that elevate your mood and relaxing at the same time. Here is the few idea I have for my me-time this weekend:
  • Classic head to toe self-pampering (I even got a gift card for a spa to use),
  • Write all the articles about our trip to Turkey,
  • Try new recipes for Pimentious,
  • Finish at least a full page of colouring book for adult,
  • Attending an Autumn party that my friend invited me to,
  • Attending an interesting cultural event in neighbouring city where my friends volunteering at,
  • Visit an animal shelter and take one of their dogs out for a walk,
  • Bring peace to the middle east,
  • Shopping,
  • Get myself a treat from Tutto Gelato, the best gelateria in town.
But who am I kidding, we all know that I will end up staying at home pantless, watching all Sandra Bullock's films available in Netflix, eating dessert for breakfast, chips for lunch and a liquid dinner. Oh and a couple of sporadic naps in the afternoon.

tired dog - I'm not lazy, I'm having me-time

Anyway, I hope you, lovely dumplings out there who stumble upon this site, get to do whatever you please too this weekend :)

Cheers!
